Het station startte haar uitzendingen op 5 oktober 2013. IndieXL heeft inmiddels bewezen trendsettend te zijn op het gebied van Indie en Alternative met de vele nieuwe releases die wekelijks te horen zijn. Steeds meer muziekliefhebbers en muzikanten luisteren naar het station dat ook daadwerkelijk (Nederlands) talent een kans geeft. De medewerkers van IndieXL onderhouden nauwe banden met de bands en artiesten en kunnen daarom snel beschikken over nieuwe releases. Inmiddels werken meer dan 25 vrijwilligers bij het online radiostation. IndieXL is het enige radiostation dat daadwerkelijk muziek draait van de bands die in Nederland op het podium staan. Op de dag van het concert draaien we veel muziek van bands die die avond optreden ergens in Nederland. Zowel uit het clubcircuit als op festivals. Van grote(re) bands draaien we in de week voor een concert geregeld muziek in de non-stopprogrammering. IndieXL is er voor iedereen die losgaat op Indiemuziek op festivals als Lowlands, London Calling, Motel Mozaique, Incubate, Eurosonic-Noorderslag en andere festivals. IndieXL werkt ook samen met concertpodia en enkele festivals zoals London Calling, Indiestad en The Spy and the Butcher.
