St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit Announces the 177th Annual Highland Games & Cèilidh. The St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit, Michigan’s oldest benevolent organization, proudly presents the 177th Annual Highland Games on Saturday, August 1, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at historic Greenmead Historical Park, & Cèilidh Friday, July 31st, 2026, beginning at 5p.m. located at Eight Mile and Newburgh Roads in Livonia. As the longest continuously running Highland Games in North America, this beloved tradition celebrates Scottish heritage with a full day of entertainment and activities for all ages. Visitors can experience thrilling Heavy Athletic competitions, including the famous caber toss, enjoy the stirring sounds of massed pipe bands, watch Highland dancers compete, browse unique Scottish and Celtic vendors, and savor a variety of food and beverages. Families will also enjoy the popular Wee Bairns children’s area, offering activities designed especially for younger guests. The festivities begin the evening before with the annual Cèilidh (pronounced KAY-lee), a lively Celtic celebration held under the big tent at Greenmead on Friday, July 31, beginning at 5:00 p.m. This adults-only event features six outstanding Scottish and Celtic bands, dancing, camaraderie, and favorite refreshments in a festive atmosphere.
