New River Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Drug Crimes in Yavapai County

6/16 YCSO says 57-year-old Donald Dean of New River was sentenced to 25-years in prison for selling methamphetamine and fentanyl in Yavapai County. Dean was arrested by the YCSO Special Crimes Unit and PANT in June of 2025. At the time of Dean’s arrest, he was on release for a separate felony offense.

Multiple Fires Ignited by Lightning in Northern Arizona

6/16 Thunderstorms ignited several wildfires Sunday and Monday. Firefighters responded to the 500-acre Rock Canyon Fire, 9-miles east of Fredonia. The 400-acre Dellenbaugh Fire, northeast of Kingman. The 1-acre Horse Fire and 2-acre Hogs Fire were also reported northeast of Kingman Monday. The 2-acre Basin Fire and 1-acre Cowboy Fire, are both located southeast of Tuba City. Fire crews are working to suppress all the fires.

Fatal Officer Involved Shooting Near Kingman

6/16 There was an officer involved shooting, east of Kingman, Monday morning. Mohave County Sheriff’s officials say deputies were responding to the area for a domestic violence call. As they arrived, a subject brandished a weapon, at which time officers fired. The individual was pronounced dead on scene.  Bullhead City Police are handling the investigation. The deputies involved in the shooting were placed on Paid Administrative Leave. No other details have been released.

I-40 Bridge Work in Winslow and Joseph City

6/16 ADOT will begin two bridge replacement projects, on I-40, between Winslow and Joseph City, next Monday. Officials say there will be around the clock restrictions in place. Eastbound I-40 will be narrowed to 1-lane over Cemetery Wash in Winslow and in each direction at the Jackrabbit Road interchange. Delays should be expected. The entire project should be finished by the end of the year.

Sedona Council Executive Session to Discuss Replacement for City Attorney

6/16 The Sedona City Council will meet in Executive Session Wednesday at 3. The agenda has the council meeting behind closed doors to discuss filling the City Attorney position. Current Attorney, Kurt Christianson announced he’s leaving the city for a private sector job in Georgia. He starts his new job in mid-August.

Rock Canyon and Dellenbaugh Fires BLM

6/16 The BLM responded to 2-lightning sparked wildfires in northwest Arizona Monday. The Rock Canyon Fire is 500-acres and is burning 9-miles south of Highway-89 and east of Fredonia. The Dellenbaugh Fire is burning south of Mount Dellenbaugh, northeast of Kingman, and has burned 400-acres.

Long Canyon Fire Tonto National Forest

6/16 Tonto National Forest discovered the Long Canyon Fire Monday. The blaze is burning near East Cedar Mountain on the west side of the Verde River in a very remote area. The fire has burned an estimated 50-acres with no threat to communities or infrastructure. Officials say although there were storms around, none dropped rain on the fire.

Brush Fire Tonto National Forest

6/16 Tonto National Forest crews responded to the Brush Fire Monday. It’s located in the Sycamore Canyon area on the Globe Ranger District. The fire has burned an estimated 250-acres and is not currently threatening any communities or infrastructure.
